Judge Alaric May was elected to the Circuit Court, Criminal Division bench in November 2018. He received his Bachelor of Arts from The University of Alabama (1992), and received his Juris Doctorate from The University of Florida, College of Law (1995).
Judge May was licensed to practice in Georgia (1995), and in Alabama (1996). The majority of his 24 years of practice was focused in the area of criminal law, having handled thousands of cases throughout both Alabama and Georgia.
Prior to being elected, Alaric served as a special Circuit and District Court Judge for Jefferson County. Additionally he served as an interim or special Judge for the cities of Birmingham, Homewood, and Adamsville.
Judge May is an active member in the Alabama Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Magic City Bar Association, the Alabama Association of Circuit Judges, the Executive Committee of the YMCA, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.
Alaric and his wife are also very active parents in the lives of their seven children.
