EXTENSION REQUEST
The Defendant has 90 days to pay without penalty. Partial payments are accepted. If not paid in full within 90 days, the matter will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Restitution Recovery Unit for collection. If that happens, what is owed will increase by 30%. The Defendant may file an extension request at least 10 days before the 90-day expiration with the Circuit Clerk. Please note, you will have to file the extension by hand or mail the same to:

Instructions for Driving School Requests
OPTION 1
[Note: If you have not yet been approved for driving school, you can apply at: https://traffic.alacourt.gov/. You must have a non-CDL current drivers' license to apply.]
Payment and certificate must be received in the clerk's office before the court appearance to dispose of the case. Payment or certificate will not be accepted without the other.
Immediately contact a driving school and schedule the required class. Online driving school class is an option in Jefferson County and will be accepted. The driving schools listed below will be able to answer questions regarding class dates/times and class costs.

OPTION 2
You may contact the Jefferson County, Birmingham Division, District Attorney’s Office Traffic Unit within 14 days of receiving a citation. To expedite the process, send an email to: jeffcobhamtraffic@jccal.org and be sure to include:
- the UTC number (located in the upper right of your ticket)
- your date of birth
- contact information.
If you do not have an email account, you may call the Jefferson County, Birmingham Division, District Attorney's Office Traffic Unit at (205) 325-5871. If you are approved for Defensive Driving School, your case may be dismissed upon payment of court costs after your completion of the course. If you are NOT eligible for driving school, you may still avoid a court appearance by following the instructions above.
